Private Robert H Mills

Robert Henry Mills was the son of Robert and Amy Eliza (Amos) Mills, of south east London; husband of Lilian Ethel (Dean) Mills, of Rotherhithe, London. They married in 1938 and had two children; Robert in 1938 and Kay in 1942. Robert enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Mills successfully completed glider training and was posted to the 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Pte Mills was killed in action on 26 March 1945, aged 34, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 8 April 1947.
