Sergeant Robert G Bates

Robert Gerald Bates was the son of Robert and Lily Bates, of Chesham. He enlisted in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.

Sergeant Bates successfully completed his Glider Pilot training and was posted to 2nd Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment, Army Air Corps.

Sgt Bates died on 21 January 1944 and is buried in Chesham Burial Ground, Sec. H. Uncons. Grave 261.
