Robert Forrester was the son of Gavin and Marion R Forrester, of Edinburgh. He enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Sergeant Forrester successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and also Glider Pilot training and was posted to D Squadron, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Sgt Forrester was killed in action on 24 September 1944, aged 20. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the Missing.
