Private Robert Ellery

Robert Ellery was born and lived in Sunderland, he enlisted into The Border Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Ellery successfully completed his Glider training and was posted to S Company, 1st (Airborne) Battalion, The Border Regt. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Ellery died of wounds on 21 September 1944, aged 28. He was given a field burial in front of the Tafelberg Hotel, Oosterbeek and re-interred on 3 September 1945 to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery.
