Sergeant Richard Douglas

Sergeant Richard Douglas served with Airborne Forces in the late 1960s and early 1970s with the Airborne REME.

Richard served with 16 Para Workshop REME from 1966, continuing with the unit as it was redesignated Workshop Squadron REME, now part of the new 1 Parachute Logistic Regiment in 1967. He served as the Chief Clerk of the Workshop until December 1972 - one of the few Para-trained REME clerks in the Army.

Richard was posted to 50 Command Workshop REME, and served as an Orderly Room Sergeant in Hong Kong in 1974. Returning the UK, he changed roles and took the SRD course to become Staff Sergeant. His final apppointment was as Regimental Instructor at the REME Training Depot at Arborfield, in Berkshire, before leaving the Army in 1976.

Excellent Orderly room Sergeant at 50 Command Wkshp where I was his LCpl - Douggie organised a survival exercise on Lantau (when its only inhabitants were dogs and a few monks)
