Corporal Reginald G Peters

Reginald Gordon Peters was born and lived in south west London. He enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers and volunteered for airborne forces.

Corporal Peters successfully completed his glider training, and was posted to C Company, 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment and took part in operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Cpl Peters was a PoW in Stalag VIIIC. In the face of the advancing Russians the camp was evacuated in February 1945. During the forced march across Germany Cpl Peters was taken ill, and brought to the medical facility of Stalag IXB (Wegscheide Bad-Orb). There he died of dysentery on 22/23 March 1945, aged 28, and was originally buried in Wegscheide POW Cemetery (Roll of Honour 5th revised edition, 2011). He was re-interred to Durnback War Cemetery on 30 September 1947.
