Private Reginald A E Francis

Reginald Albert Edward Francis was born and lived in Kent, he enlisted in the Royal West Kent Regiment and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Private Francis successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 89, from 28 October to 9 November 1943. His course report stated “Good performer, cheerful, enthusiastic.” He was posted to 7th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Francis was killed in action on 6 June 1944, aged 20, and was given a field burial in the grounds of Grangues Chateau and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 1 June 1945.
