Sergeant Raymond A J Dye

20 Aug 1922 - 20 Jun 1966

Raymond A J Dye enlisted in the army with The Somerset Light Infantry on 15 January 1942 aged 20.

He transferred to the Army Air Corps 6 December 1942. Raymond was parachute jump trained with the rank of L/Cpl, at RAF Ringway on Course 41. This course ran between 3 and 17 December 1942. His instructor noted this about his performance on this course, 

"Has shown improvement on this course"

He was then posted to 7th Bn Parachute Regiment, HQ Coy on 30 December 1942.  His records indicate the following service overseas:

5 June - 3 September 1944 NWE 

25 December 1944. - 23 February 1945  - NWE 

24 March - 20 May 1945 NWE

31 July 1945 - 6 September 1945 - India

7 September 1945 12 December 1945 Singapore 

13 December 1945 - 15 February 1946 Batavia

Discharged in November 1946 and joined the Reserves January 1947. Raymond sadly died of a brain haemorrhage when he was just 43.
