Private Raymond D Gould

Raymond Dan Gould, son of William and Dorothy Gould, of West Norwood, London, enlisted into the General Service Corps and then volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Gould successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course 65 from 17 to 28 May 1943. His course report stated that he was "enthusiastic, hard worker, jumped very well". He was posted to 6 Platoon, S Company, 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. He took part in Operation Slapstick (Italy) and Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Gould was killed in action on 21 September 1944, aged 21. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial.
