Driver Ralph E Leatherbarrow

Ralph Ernest Leatherbarrow was the son of Ralph Ernest and Alice E Leatherbarrow, of Ashton, Lancashire; husband of Vera Leatherbarrow, of Fazakerley, Liverpool, he enlisted into the Royal Corps of Signals and volunteered for airborne forces.

Driver Leatherbarrow successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 83, from 15 to 24 September 1943. His course report stated “Fair standard, keen on work”. He was posted to K Section, 6th Airborne Divisional Signals, Royal Corps of Signals, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Dvr Leatherbarrow was killed in action on 19 August 1944, aged 23, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
