Lance Corporal Philip J Prouting

24 Mar 1945

Philip James Prouting was the son of Thomas and Eva Minnie (Tolhurst) Prouting, he enlisted in the Royal Ulster Rifles and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Corporal Prouting successfully completed glider training and was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

L/Cpl Prouting was killed in action on 24 March 1945, age 25, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 22 April 1947.
