Staff Sergeant Peter R Jones

Peter Reginald Jones was the son of Reginald and Gwendoline Jones, of Barnes, Surrey. He enlisted into the Royal Corps of Signals and volunteered for airborne forces.

Staff Sergeant Jones successfully completed his Glider Pilot training and was posted to B Squadron, 1st Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

S/Sgt Jones was killed in action on 18 September 1944, aged 23, and was given a field burial in a mass grave at Hartstein Hotel, Oosterbeek. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 13 August 1945.
