Lance Bombardier Peter D Martin

Peter Douglas Martin was the husband of Edna Martin, of Hersham, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. He enlisted into the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Bombardier Martin successfully completed his glider training and was posted to HQ Troop, 1 Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, Royal Artillery and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

L/Bdr Martin was killed in action on 26 September 1944, aged 26, and was given a field burial in a mass grave in the institute garden, near Oosterbeek Station. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 5 September 1945.
