Private Peter Bartko

Peter Bartko was the son of Annie Bartko and enlisted into the Camerons of Canada on 2 July 1940, and volunteered for airborne forces.

He was 5' 7", 119 Ibs, fair complexion, brown eyes, fair hair, 20/20 vision. He arrived in the UK on 20 October 1941 and successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway, England, and was posted to 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion on 23 October 1943. He took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy Landings).

Private Bartko was killed in action on 2 August 1944, aged 24, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
