Patrick Maguite was the son of Thomas and Mrs Maguire, of Lisnageer, County Monaghan, Irish Republic, he enlisted in the Royal Irish Fusiliers and volunteered for Airborne Forces.
Rifleman Maguire successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and also completed glider training. He was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles, and took part in Operation Overlord (D Day landings).
Rfn Maguire was killed in action on 7 June 1944, aged 30, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
