Private Patrick B Smyth

25 Feb 1919 - 19 Jul 1944

Patrick Brendon Smyth was the son of Hugh and Susan Smyth; husband of Winifred Kate Smyth, of Basingstoke, Hampshire, he enlisted in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Smyth successfully completed his glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Smyth was killed in action on 19 July 1944, aged 25, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
