Corporal Owen Smith

Owen Smith was the son of Frank J and Hilda Smith, of Upton Bishop, Herefordshire, he enlisted in the Worcestershire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Corporal Smith successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Cpl Smith was killed in action on 24 March 1945, age 25, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany on 18 April 1947.
