Lieutenant Otho C R Weatherby

Otho Charles Roger Weatherby was the son of James Thorpe and Giana Dorothea (Gilliat) Weatherby, of Stanton St. John, Oxfordshire. Otho was commissioned in the Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry, and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lieutenant Weatherby successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Lt Weatherby was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 21, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany on 16 April 1947.
