Private Norman W Franklin

Norman William Franklin was the son of William and Susan Franklin. His father was a Shipping Clerk and on the 1939 register as a Food Supply Dispatch Clerk. Norman married Beatrice Maud Florence (Stamp) in Hendon, Middlesex in October 1939. They had no children. He enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Franklin successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Ox and Bucks Light Infantry and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Pte Franklin was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 28, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 21 March 1947.
