Corporal Norman Parr

Norman Parr was the son of John and Minnie Parr, of Middlesborough, Yorkshire, he enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Corporal Parr successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 69 from 21 June to 1 July 1943. His course report stated “An excellent type of man who jumped very well”. He was posted to 12th (10th Battalion the Green Howards [Yorkshire Regiment]) Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy). Cpl Parr was killed in action on 9 June 1944, age 19, and was given a field burial at Longueval and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 2 June 1945.
