Norman Leonard, the son of George and Annabella Leonard, of Woodside, Aberdeen, volunteered for airborne forces.

He successfully completed his parachute training on 23 June 1945 and it was noted that he was a “Good performer. Keen, cheerful and confident”.

Private Leonard was posted to the Reserve Battalion before being transferred to 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment and served in Palestine.

He was killed on 29 May 1946 and is now buried at Ramleh War Cemetery, Israel.
