Norman Higgins was the son of Laurence and Annie Higgins, of North Walsall, Staffordshire. He enlisted into the South Staffordshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Higgins successfully completed his glider training and was posted to D Company, 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Higgins was killed in action on 17 September 1944, aged 30, and was given a field burial by the roadside north of Reijerskamp farm, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 24 August 1945.
