Private Norman Cooper

Private Norman Cooper, son of William and Lavinia Cooper, of Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, intially served with the Royal Welch Fusiliers before he joined Airborne Forces.

Pte Cooper joined 1st Parachute Battalion after completion of Parachute Course 14 in early June 1942. In September 1944, he was serving 3 Platoon of R Company, 1st Parachute Battalion and took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.

Private Cooper died on 17 September 1944, aged 21 years old. He is now commemorated on the Memorial at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, near Nijmegen.
