Bombardier Maurice J Knight

Maurice J Knight was the husband of E J Knight, of Mile End, Essex. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Bombardier Knight successfully completed glider training and also parachute training at RAF Ringway, and was posted to 1 Airlanding Light Regiment, Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Bdr Knight drowned while swimming in the Rhine during the withdrawal on 25 September 1944, aged 21. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
