Corporal Maurice H Grace

Maurice Herbert Grace, born in March 1918, was a shorthand typist from Brighton, Sussex who enlisted in the RAMC and was part of the 181 Airborne Landing. He was stationed at Chilton Foliat in 1943 as he married Daphne in April 1943. His best man was a comrade called George Green who was captured by the Germans in Arnhem, prisoner 90559 Stalag IV B.

An account of the RAMC by a Fred J. Budd, with a handwritten note at the end: "This is the first part of the 181's story, many more pages to write. No mention yet of our times in Stenigot and other places. Also the many reunions we have had and the wonderful lot of chaps of the 181's. The way the reunions have survived with the great work of Alfie Frampton, who I hear may be assisted with the help of Maurice Grace and Eddie Neal." It's believed Fred Budd died in early 2000.

After the war, in late 1947, Maurice and Daphne emigrated to Toronto, Canada and he worked in Toronto City Hall. They didn't stay long, and returned in early 1949 to live in Brighton, Sussex; and they stayed in the Sussex area (Hove, Brighton and latterly Eastbourne) all their lives.

Maurice apparently kept in touch with people from his RAMC days, and organized annual reunions, the last one, the 50th?. was due to take place in 2000.

Maurice died in September 2000.
