Matthew Joseph Corr was enlisted into the General Service Corps in April 1944 before being posted to the Highland Light Infantry. He volunteered for airborne forces in August 1944.

Pte Corr undertook parachute training course 132, which ran at RAF Ringway in September 1944. He was briefly posted to the Physical Training Company attached to the Army Air Corps Infantry Training Centre.

He subsequently deployed with the 6th Airborne Division to the Ardennes, Rhine Crossing, the Advance to the Baltic and Palestine.

Cpl Corr was demobbed in January 1948.
