Martin James Holland enlisted in September 1966 and passed P Company (Coy) with 311 Platoon. At the Passing Out Parade on 22 March 1967, Pte Holland was awarded Champion SLR (Self Loading Rifle) Shot and Champion GPMG (General Purpose Machine Gun).

On completion of jump training Pte Holland was posted to 1 PARA, serving in B Coy and Support Coy and as a member of 1 PARA’s boxing team.

During his service with 1 PARA he went to Aden, Northern Ireland, Cyprus and Berlin and undertook exercises in Germany, Canada and Kenya before leaving in 1975.

He reenlisted in 1976 into The Queen’s Regiment and was awarded a British Empire Medal, Operational Award in 1983.

WO2 Holland was discharged in September 1990.
