Private Mark Allsop

Private Mark Allsop was the son of Mark and Susie Allsop, of Sheffield.

He served with The King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry prior to volunteering for airborne forces in 1942.

Pte Allsop qualified as a military parachutist on course 35, which ran at RAF Ringway from 29 October to 7 November 1942.

He joined A Company, 2nd Parachute Battalion early in 1943 as a reinforcement in North Africa during Operation Torch.

Private Allsop was killed by mortar fire as the battalion occupied positions in the Tamera Valley on 15 March 1943. He was aged 20 years old and is now buried at Tabarka Ras Rajel War Cemetery, Tunisia.
