Major Major Peter McEwen

06 Dec 1917 - 24 Mar 1945

Peter McEwen was the son of James Stephen and Gertrude Julia (Johnson) McEwen; husband of Ione Margaret (Kingcome) McEwen, of Streatham, London. They married in July 1942, in Surrey. He was granted a commission and volunteered for airborne forces.

Major McEwen successfully completed glider training and was posted to 6 Airborne Division, Field Park Company, Royal Army Service Corps and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Mjr McEwen was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 27, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 12 April 1947.
