Private Lorne Sauder

Lorne Sauder was the son of Levi and Marjorie May Sauder, of Waubmick, Ontario, Canada. He was a Truck Driver. He was 5’ 8”, 152 lbs, fair complexion, blue eyes, fair hair and with 20/20 vision.

He enlisted in the Infantry, R Wing, 7 Company on 22 February 1943, and arrived in UK on 12 April 1944. He transferred to 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, and qualified as a parachutist on 23 September 1943 and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Private Sauder and the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion jumped into France on 5/6 June 1944. He died of wounds in 224 Para Field Ambulance on 13 June 1944, aged 20, and was given a field burial at Le Mesnil, and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 26 June 1945.
