Staff Sergeant Lewis Wadsworth

Lewis Wadsworth was the son of William and Martha Wadsworth and the husband of Lily Wadsworth, of Royton, Lancashire. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.

Staff Sergeant Wadsworth successfully completed his glider pilot training and was posted to E Squadron, 1st Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

S/Sgt Wadsworth was killed in action on 20 September 1944, aged 24, and was given a field burial 180 yards west of Hartenstein Hotel, Oosterbeek. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 10 September 1945.
