Corporal Leslie Mons Wren

Leslie Mons Wren was the son of James and Susane Lavinia Wren; husband of Elsie Vera Wren (Bugden), of Barnsbury, London. His father was a regular soldier, which accounts for Leslie’s middle name ‘Mons’ as he was born so close to the date of the WW1 battle. He enlisted in the Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.

Corporal Wren successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Cpl Wren was killed in action on 13 June 1944, aged 29, and was given a field burial at Breville and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 2 July 1945.
