Lieutenant Leslie G Cairns

Leslie George Cairns, M.A., Hons. (Edin.), was the son of George and Agnes Josephine (Gardner) Cairns; husband of Irene Jessie (Brown) Cairns. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lieutenant Cairns successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and was posted to 1st Special Air Service Regiment, Army Air Corps, and took part in Operation Overlord (‘D’ day landings).

Lt Cairns was killed in action on 18 June 1944, aged 24, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
