Leslie Donaldson Ross (Sonny) was the son of Orville James and Mary Ross, of Canada.

He was a Truck Driver, 5’ 6¼”, 127½ lbs, dark complexion, Blue eyes, no hair and with 20/20 vision. He enlisted in the 1st District Depot on 7 August 1942, was posted to Fort Benning, Georgia, USA, qualified as a parachutist and transferred to 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion on 26 December 1942. He arrived in the UK on 28 July 1943, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Private Ross and the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion jumped into France on 5/6 June 1944. He was killed in action on 15 June 1944, aged 22, and was given a field burial in Le Mesnil de Breville Par Bavent, and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 27 September 1945.
