Gunner Leonard R Sweetingham

Leonard Richard Sweetingham was the son of Joseph and Mary Sweetingham, of East Ham, Essex. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Gunner Sweetingham successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2 Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Gnr Sweetingham was killed in action on 25 September 1944, aged 21. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
