Private Leonard Eatwell

Leonard Eatwell the son of Edward and Kate Eatwell, of Clerkenwell Green, London, enlisted in the Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge’s Own). He transferred to the Royal Artillery and then volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Eatwell attended a parachute course at number 4 Parachute Training School in Italy and was posted to B Company, 6 Platoon, the 4th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment.

Pte Eatwell saw service in North Africa, Italy and Greece. 

Pte Eatwell was killed on 11 December 1944, aged 24, in Greece on Operation Manna.

He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial.

Pte Eatwell's medals were donated to the Airborne Assault Museum in 1994 by Mr Ayton and are now displayed in the museum's medal gallery.
