Captain Laurence Nicholson M.A. (Cantab)

Laurence Nicholson M.A. (Cantab) was born in Bicester, Oxfordshire, the son of Archibald Frederick and Lillian Knyvett Anne (English) Nicholson, of Bucknell, Oxfordshire. He was granted a commission and volunteered for airborne forces.

Captain Nicholson successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 12 from 20 April to 1 May 1942 and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry, and took part in Operation Overlord (D Day Landings) and Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Capt Nicholson was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 24, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 22 April 1947.
