Private Kingsley Lilley

19 Jul 1913 - 24 Mar 1945

Kingsley Lilley was the son of Alexander Joseph and Sarah Kate (Bradley) Lilley; husband of Bessie Mary Grace (Skinner) Lilley, of Exmouth, Devon. He enlisted in the Devonshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Lilley successfully completed glider training and was posted to the 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Pte Lilley was killed in action on 24 March 1945, age 31, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 8 April 1947.
