Kenneth Mervyn Pledger was the son of Thomas Oswald and Mary Somers Pledger, of Hillsdale, Ontario, Canada. He was 5’ 7”, 131 lbs, medium complexion, Blue eyes, Brown hair and with 20/20 vision. He enlisted on 27 April 1943 at No 2 District Depot, he arrived in the UK on 1 September 1943 and transferred to 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion on 14 September 1943. He qualified as a parachutist on 18 October 1943 and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Private Pledger and the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion jumped into France on 5/6 June 1944. He was killed in action on 6 June 1944, aged 19, and was given a field burial in Douville and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 5 September 1945.
