Sapper Kenneth Hemmings

Kenneth Hemmings was born and lived in Sheffield. He enlisted into the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Sapper Hemmings successfully completed his parachute training on course number 93, from 29 November to 13 December 1943 and was posted to 1st Parachute Squadron, Royal Engineers, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Spr Hemmings was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 21, and was given a field burial in the Arnhem Communal Roman Catholic Cemetery, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 27 August 1945.
