Corporal McCarthy was a staff member of 460 Recuit Platoon, Depot Para, which I joined. He cut a tall imposing figure and was eloquently spoken. Corporal McCarthy was a charismatic section commander; he often injected his training session with his acid wit and humour. He lived and breathed the airborne brotherhood firmly instilling in the recruits, the renowned A B I with self belief and confidence, whether in field or in the pub. He was a great mentor for any would-be paratrooper. I was sorry to hear of your passing. Your memory lives on I salute you.
