Staff Sergeant John Wright

John Wright was the son of Joseph and Mary Wright, of Townhead, Glasgow. He enlisted in the Royal Engineers, and volunteered for airborne forces.

Staff/Sergeant Wright successfully completed Glider Pilot training and was posted to G Squadron, 9 Flight, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

S/Sgt Wright was killed by shrapnel at 11.00 hours on 19 September 1944, aged 25. He was last seen about 50 yards west of the Old Church at Oosterbeek and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the Missing.
