Rifleman John Woodburn

John Woodburn was the son of Thomas and Mary Ann Woodburn, of Manchester. He enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Rifleman Woodburn successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles, and took part in Operation Overlord (‘D’ day landings).

Rfn Woodburn was killed in action on 6 June 1944, aged 19, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
