Sergeant John Walters

Sergeant John Walters, son of Millicent Dowse, of Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire served with 2nd Wing, Glider Pilot Regiment. He took part in the glider insertion to the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.

Sergeant Walters drowned during the attempt to cross the Lower Rhine during the evacuation on the British 1st Airborne Division. He died on 25 September 1944, aged 27 years old. His Body was recovered from the River Lek on 15 November 1944, and was subsequently buried in Wijk-bij-Duurstede General Cemetery, Utrecht.
