Private John W King

John William King was born in south west London and lived in Norfolk. He enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private King successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 94/95 from 6 to 20 December 1943. His course report stated ‘Sprained ankle on fast and heavy landing on night balloon but completed the course’. He was posted to 7 Platoon, C Company, 11th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte King was killed in action on 21 September 1944, aged 27, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
