Lance Corporal John T Harvey

John Thomas Harvey was the son of Archibald John Belcher and Florence Beatrice Harvey, of Harborne, Birmingham, he enlisted into the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Corporal Harvey successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 85 from 25 September to 10 October 1943. He was posted to C Company, 9 Platoon, 8th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

L/Cpl Harvey was killed in action on 9 June 1944, aged 25, and was given a field burial at Tuffreville and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 21 August 1945.
