Private John T Girgan

21 Sep 1944

John Thomas Girgan was born and lived in Kirkcudbrightshire. He enlisted in The King’s Own Scottish Borderers and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Private Girgan successfully completed his glider training and was posted to Support Company, 7th (Airborne) Battalion, The King’s Own Scottish Borderers, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Girgan was killed in action sometime between 21 and 23 September 1944, aged 24. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
