John R Wright

John Robert Wright was the son of John and Catherine Wright, of Woodthorpe, Nottinghamshire. He enlisted into the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.

Staff Sergeant Wright successfully completed Glider Pilot training and was posted to Flight 3, B Squadron, 1st Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

S/Sgt Wright was killed in action on 24 September 1944, aged 27, and was given a field burial in a garden near the junction of Benedendorpsweg and Kneppelhoutweg, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 22 August 1945.
