Private John R Rennie

John Ross Rennie was the son of William Pirie and Christina Ross Rennie, of Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, he enlisted in the General Service Corps, and volunteered for airborne forces. His brother Private James Ross Rennie died on 1 January 1946, aged 18.

Private Rennie successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 94/95, from 6 to 20 December 1943. His course report stated “Good parachutist, consistent during training, slow and deliberate but high standard”. He was posted to 7th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Rennie was killed in action on 6 June 1944, age 20, and was given a field burial near Ouistreham and re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 11 October 1945.
