Corporal John R H Cooper

John Robert Henry Cooper enlisted into The Royal Artillery in Durham on 18 January 1934.

He volunteered for airborne forces, at the age of 25 years, while serving in the Middle East, and undertook his parachute training at Ramat David on course 78 from 12 to 23 November 1943.  He joined the 11th Parachute Battalion and later became sect 2 i/c of 9 Platoon, C Company.

As part of Operation Market Garden, he dropped on DZ Y on 18 September 1944. Later, having been wounded, he was taken as a PoW and sent to Stalag 7A, Moosburg, Germany.

Cpl Cooper was demobbed in December 1946.
